The link between nutrition and heart disease…

Here’s a foodie joke that popped into my in-box this morning. I like it…

After an exhaustive review of the research literature, here’s the final word on nutrition and health.:

1. Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
2. Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
3. Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
4.. Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
5. Germans drink beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
6. The French eat foie-gras, full fat cheese and drink red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us

The Joker’s CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Epic’s conclusion: stock up the cellar, eat more foie gras, go to Wahaca more and book for 2009 Oktoberfest.

I don’t think food will kill me; it’s probably going to be the cutlery.

Good point. I hadn’t thought of that. There’s a wonderful picture going around the internet of a little boy with a fork through his nose. If you play your cards right, Ross, that could be YOU!

Apparently it’s not so much what you eat but how much.

Sometimes I just wish I didn’t have a sense of taste. There are so many things that taste sooo good and I hate it when I come to the end of them. I just want the experience to keep on going.

Ross – come to think of it, how much self-harm can you do in a land of chopsticks? or am I simply not being imaginative enough?

Razz – tell me about it. Taste excites me big time. If I’m not cooking or eating I’m reading cookbooks or watching food tv. It’s a terrible addiction but so enjoyable…

Very funny commentary. English and I’d guess the concept of the ” all you can eat buffet ” must both be detrimental to good health.
I mean, just because you can, does it mean you SHOULD?

American culture especially is obsessed with diets, recipes, fast food, another diet, another weight loss exercise, early bird dinners- all you can eat for $5.99 and more diets.

Better to have a tablespoon of something fantastic than a buffet table with its’ own zip code.

I don’t think only foods causes people to have a heart attack. Sometimes lack of exercise and hereditary, right?

Hi Myra, no, of course it’s not ONLY food that can make the heart unhealthy, but too much of the wrong stuff can definitely do damage. Have you ever seen Super Size Me? Ouch.
