Your story hits home with me. You’re just lucky you weren’t travelling in Vietnam when your bank blocked your card.
When I was in South America, one of the banks I deal with blocked my bankcard. When I was finally able to phone them they said it was just a routine thing.. no biggie.
    I wasn’t impressed.

PR – yep. I’m no stranger to having my card blocked for unusual activity. I just don’t get why they don’t call me to ask where I am. They have my mobile number! Last year it took me two days to have it unblocked when I was in France. Seriously. Un. Im. Pressed.
    Just like you.
Oh and then there’s the time they blocked it in Rimini because Rimini is a drugs trafficking centre (according to my bank). They cancelled my card, said they had to reissue it (bullsh*t) and only when I told them to tell me which bank they’d be wiring money to so I could eat did they reactivate it.

Thank you for this helpful information. I have just gotten my Vietnamese visa from the embassy in washington DC. Afterwards I learned that if you are planning to enter at land/border crossings you have to have that particularly stamped on your visa. I did not do this since there was nowhere on my visa application to write about this. Do you think I will have a problem? I plan on crossing the border at Moc Bai with Cambodia. Thanks so much!

Hi Ali, thanks for your comment. I only entered/ left Vietnam via airports so I’m not sure about the exact requirements for entering/ exiting by land. Could you contact the Vietnamese Embassy in DC for further information? Hope you have a wonderful time…. Green with envy, here.

  11. Hello, i read your blog occasionally and i own a similar one and i was just curious
if you get a lot of spam responses? If so how do you stop it, any
plugin or anything you can advise? I get so much lately it’s driving me insane so any support is very much appreciated.
